Ohio gun ruling must be followed up with police training

There’s more at issue than that—nothing less than the lives and safety of gun owners who are breaking no law—but are nonetheless being physically endangered by those sworn to uphold and protect the law. [More]
Today's Gun Rights Examiner column notes the biggest danger presented by open carry comes from "Only Ones" openly carrying in the service of the state.

Also catch the premier (well, at least en encore performance) of Gun Talk TV, and then resolve to do...uh...everything.

Resolve to openly carry the link to your friends?

------------

It's New Year's Eve and I'm prepping for a big family dinner, so that's it for today.  Sorry to all who sent me links.  I do note John Longenecker has a new Safer Streets edition out, and you can catch the latest from my fellow GREs from the sidebar links.

Happy New Year, everybody.  My older brother is bringing over some Spanish champagne (oh, excuse me, purists, "sparkling wine"), and James Towle sent me a cigar for Christmas that tonight will meet a fiery doom.

------------

One update I simply had to share: These evil subversives will be astonished if they keep pushing--or if they're not, we'll have failed. The only confusion is that which they intentionally create through lies and manipulation.

Translation is only needed to decipher the intent of these Fourth Estate Fifth Columnists: What they're saying is, we can't claim our rights because we don't understand them.  So somebody will have to define the lengths of our chains for us.  And they'll explain it in terms we can understand.

I guess until one of them disappears and is erased and a new explanation supplants the last one...

Will there be a gun massacre in Ambridge? [Read]

Yeah, I know it's just a show, but it's one written to evoke emotional effects in its audience. And it does prove truth is stranger than fiction.

Because the real question is, if there were a massacre in a real village, who would be equipped to do a damn thing about it?

And we all know the answer to that question.

Last month El Paso, a sprawling southwest Texas city of 700,000 residents, was named the safest city of its size in the United States for the first time, and it is on track to close out 2010 with just five murders.

But just over the shallow concrete trench of the Rio Grande in Ciudad Juarez, more than 3,000 people have been tortured, shot and blasted to death in gang warfare this year, clinching its grim reputation as the world's most dangerous city. [More]

These characters must not slumber nor sleep at home in such times of pressing danger; they must not content themselves in the enjoyment of places of honor or profit in their own country while the common interests of America are moldering and sinking into irretrievable (if a remedy is not soon applied) ruin, in which theirs also must ultimately be involved. Incredibly sad news I just learned of...

If you'll excuse me, I'm taking the rest of the day off to deal with my sadness.

Propaganda ‘journalism’ blames U.S. gun laws for Mexican violence

The 90% canard has been exposed so many times, and for so long, that a professional “Authorized Journalist” using it again here can only be explained by a truth-be-damned agenda.

As has the astounding corruption of both Mexican military and police forces, from whose ranks the narcoterrorist Los Zetas sprang, first as enforcers, and now as prime players in their own right.

But we’re to believe it’s due to that “wide gulf in gun laws.” [More]
Today's Gun Rights Examiner column looks at an "Authorized Journalist" doing what they do best.

I'd have laughed and invited the pussy to make good. I can say that, because I've done it in the past.

And yes, I also called the police--not for protection though. I wanted an official report establishing the event and my attempt at lawful resolution, just in case I needed evidence for my defense if a body was tied back to me.

We're the Only Ones En Masse Enough

British Attack on Savannah December 28, 1778
By 1778, the British altered their strategy to subdue the American rebellion. An army of over 3,000 British regulars, German mercenaries and American Loyalists sailed from New York to capture Savannah. Under the command of Lt. Col. Archibald Campbell, the expedition would use the city as a base of operations against Patriot forces in the South. The British advance into Savannah was virtually uncontested by the surprised Georgia Continentals. For the duration of the war in America, Savannah was an occupied city. [More]

An Important Message for All Sipsey Street Irregulars...uh...Regulars

While society rewards the likes of Snooki from Jersey Shore with celebrity and fortune, and while  lying, incompetent "Authorized Journalists" enjoy their paychecks, benefits, matching 401K contributions and the like, the market for liberty leadership is flat.

We need the leaders, but no one seems willing to pay for them.

Friends of Mike Vanderboegh have contacted me and are concerned that he's financially hurting.  I know for a fact that he is--with health problems also being a concern--and have been wondering what we who look to him on a regular basis for analysis, guidance and leadership can do.

As would be expected, Mike is not only proud, but selfless.  When I contacted him about saying something--because I don't wish to embarrass him--his response did not surprise me in the least.  I don't make a practice of sharing private emails, and I trust he'll forgive me for sharing a portion of this one--while admitting the difficult time his family is facing, this was his primary response:
I am loath to ask other people for money when things are so very tight everywhere and they should be preparing themselves.
Regulars here know I never ask for money for myself (although I do shamelessly hound to share my Examiner links so those cheap ########! can pay me).  In this case, I'm not going to ask you to send Mike a donation either.

Not a cent in gift money.

What I will ask you to do --all of you who visit his site every day and receive value from it--is pay for that value.  I'm asking you to voluntarily subscribe to Sipsey Street Irregulars and help Mike continue to bring YOU his daily reports and insights.

Just so we're clear: This is NOT CHARITY.  This is PAYMENT FOR SERVICES BEING RENDERED.

How much?  I won't put a ceiling on the maximum, but would submit the recommended minimum should be something we all, with very few exceptions/excuses can afford: A dollar a month.

I see from Mike's Site Meter that SSI brings in around 2,400 discrete visitors each day.  That means if we all do this, the guy will actually be able to pay most of the bills and focus on giving us what he's been selflessly providing every day for years--with no compensation or expectations of personal gain.

What is this guy, our slave?  Do people pay you for what you do?

I'll accept that some--a few--are simply not in a position to do this, with financial straits of their own.  But I bet most of us are able. How much do we spend a year on ammo?  Do you think we can get through this without intellectual ammunition and leadership?

How many will man up and do the right thing? 3/4? Half?Under a dozen of you?

My experience with trying to get simple things done, like sharing a link or sending an email, does not fill me with great hopes. Sorry, not trying to start a fight here, but I've said before, if anything induces me to finally hang things up and take care of Number One, it will be those "Profiles in Apathy" that to me represent a greater threat than the antis will ever be capable of presenting.

I don't want to hear great words of Liberty and "Is it time yet?" and all the other brave words of defiance from thousands of self-professed Threepers who won't even do this small thing.  If you won't do it, if you won't help when you know in your heart you could, my guess is it will show the oppressor all he needs to know about the personal commitment of those who say they'll stand up to him.

Regulars here know I never ask anyone to do anything I'm not willing to do myself.

My envelope with my $12 annual subscription fee is in the mail.

Mike Vanderboegh
P.O. Box 926
Pinson, AL 35126.

If you agree with me, yours will be too, and you'll spread the word.

And I apologize to Mike if this embarrasses him. I did not get his permission to do this. But unless he tells me flat out that leaving this plea up will end our friendship, I'll not obey any orders from him to take this post down.

We're the Only Ones Eluded Enough

“I didn’t know an Escort could go that fast,” he said. “Not the best escape vehicle you would think.” [More]
You're right. I would think that.

Once You Are Approved

You can’t just go pick up a pistol license. Oneida County Judge Michael Dwyer, the county’s chief pistol license officer, requires prospective applicants to complete the first eight hours of the National Rifle Association basic pistol course.

“After that, you can make an appointment to be fingerprinted, and it’s a four-month process (background checks and more),” Sullivan said. “Once you are approved, you can buy a gun.” [More]
They're not only oath breakers, they're blasphemers.

But perhaps I'm being too hard on them, and too ungrateful for the safeguards and protections they offer: After all, if they can get the violent criminals to do this, they're keeping us all a lot safer.

And remember: Enforce existing gun laws!

We're the Only Ones Pulling Out Enough

Harpole says the 42-year-old officer, a 9-year veteran of the force, pulled out his gun and shot the man with the knife. [More]
"Only Ones" can do that in Milwaukee.

A Disarming Video

Three days after he posted a series of six video clips recorded with a cell phone camera at San Francisco International Airport, four federal air marshals and two sheriff's deputies arrived at his house to confiscate his federally-issued firearm. The pilot recorded that event as well and provided all the video to News10.

At the same time as the federal marshals took the pilot's gun, a deputy sheriff asked him to surrender his state-issued permit to carry a concealed weapon.

A follow-up letter from the sheriff's department said the CCW permit would be reevaluated following the outcome of the federal investigation. [More]
Make sure you watch the video. That's quite a gang-up. I'm surprised they didn't at least kill his dog.

So much for depending on the government for permission to keep and bear arms.  They don't like you and so much for that.  But doesn't this just show the ridiculousness of the whole presumption--that videotaping official thugs and boobs makes someone who knows them when he sees them too dangerous to be trusted with a firearm.

But he can still fly.

So say the "Only Ones."

We're the Only Ones Instructive Enough

Just the "organized" part, Pauline.

I hardly believe you don't know that.

Or that "Congress has established the present National Guard under its own power to raise armies, expressly stating that it was not doing so under its power to organize and arm the militia."

Or that you're unaware of the overwhelming documentation detailing the intent of the Founders that the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.

But I guess I forget my place. Current accepted thought among the more enlightened is that we mere rustics are simply too unschooled to weigh in on matters best left for interpretation by a qualified class of academics and legal professionals.

BRADY CAMPAIGN ANNOUNCES ‘GODDARDS ON GUNS’ BLOG
“Father and Son take on gun lobby after VA Tech Tragedy”

Washington, D.C. – A father who nearly lost his only son to gun violence, and that son, who survived being shot four times in the worst school shooting in U.S. history, are adding their voices to the blogosphere, the Brady Campaign today announced.

Virginia Tech survivor Colin Goddard and his father, Andrew, who are both active in the gun violence prevention movement, are teaming up to write a blog about gun issues.

“Since being shot at Virginia Tech, a number of people have told me that crazy people are going to do crazy things and there’s nothing we can do about it,” said Colin Goddard, 25. “I reject that premise. There are things we can and must do. One of them is to speak out against America’s epidemic of gun violence and talk about the solutions. My voice is my greatest weapon, and blogging with my father is one of the ways I intend to use it.”

The Goddards didn’t know it then, but the April 16, 2007 Virginia Tech Massacre, in which 32 students and teachers were killed, would be the event that would help them find their voices on gun violence and spur them to pursue meaningful social and public policy changes to prevent similar tragedies.

The Virginia Tech killer, who carried out the massacre with two semi-automatic assault pistols, should not have been legally allowed to purchase those guns because of his history of mental illness. When the Goddards discovered how easy it is for dangerous people to get guns in America, they vowed to fight for change.

Colin Goddard, who now works at the Brady Campaign as Assistant Director for Federal Legislation, went to gun shows with a hidden camera in 2009 as an intern for Brady to expose the loophole that allows private sellers to sell guns without criminal background checks.
That experience, and Colin’s work at Brady, inspired filmmakers to make the young man’s story the subject of a new documentary, Living for 32, which has been accepted for competition in the Short Films category at the Sundance Film Festival (see http.www.livingfor32.com) and is being screened at select venues around the country. The producer is Maria Cuomo Cole, who blogged about Colin and guns on campus on the Huffington Post recently. The post is available here.

Andrew Goddard, a retired engineer who resides in Richmond, Va., became president of the Richmond Chapter of the Million Mom March shortly after the Virginia Tech shootings.

As Andrew sat near his recuperating son’s bedside that snowy April day and noticed that “sandbags are piled against the wounds to stem the bleeding, but the sheets and pillow slowly turn from starched white to dull red,” questions nagged and tugged at him. “What circumstances caused this terrible event?  Where did (the shooter) get his guns and what made him want to shoot all those people?  What could have been done to prevent this?” Andrew recalled with Colin in their introductory blog posted at bradycampaign.org and www.hufffingpost.com

The Goddards will blog about “the flow of guns between the legal and illegal markets, state and federal gun legislation and policies, mental health, school and university policies, and America’s culture of gun violence in general.”

Colin Goddard can also be followed on Twitter and Facebook.

As the nation's largest, non-partisan, grassroots organization leading the fight to prevent gun violence, the Brady Campaign, with its dedicated network of Million Mom March Chapters, works to enact and enforce sensible gun laws, regulations and public policies.  The Brady Campaign is devoted to creating an America free from gun violence, where all Americans are safe at home, at school, at work, and in our communities.
Any bets on whether or not these professional victims will allow "reasoned discourse"?

I don't see a url and haven't been able to locate the actual blog site--yet.

I just don't think "Goddards on Guns" is as catchy as "The Human Target"...

Examiner Strikes Again

Yes, I know the individual article links aren't working. And that instead they go to my main page. And that it doesn't show any updates past October.

I've suggested the corporate slogan "Just slightly ahead of our ability."

The Deadly Assault Candy Cane Menace

Skylar Torbett, also a junior, said administrators told him, "The candy canes could be used as weapons by sucking on them and making them have sharp points." He said neither he nor any of their friend did that. [More]

Perhaps the school administrators should be invited to suck on something else.
Mother Kathleen Flannery said a administrator called her and explained that, "not everyone wants Christmas cheer. That suicide rates are up over Christmas, and that they should keep their cheer to themselves, perhaps."
Perhaps school administrators should be invited to help push those rates up a tad more--that would probably cheer everyone else up considerably.

Do it for the children.

Or at least change the name from "Battlefield High School." That's gotta be bad for young psyches.

A Beacon of Hope

"The National Rifle Association in America is the standard by which all gun owners judge themselves," said Rahoul Rai, NAGRI's semi-official spokesman. Which has brought gun ownership not just to the United States but to the whole world. For us in India, this is the beacon of hope." [More]

Superpowers and the Second Amendment

First, all possessors of potentially harmful powers could be subject to a background check if they did not have the powers from birth. If they failed the background check, they could be forbidden to use the power (although use in self-defense might still be allowed by the Constitution). A registration scheme would be likely (Note, this likely would not run afoul of the Constitution because it does not apply to all mutants or superpowered individuals, just those with potentially harmful powers).

Second, exceptional powers could be subject to a permitting system including more thorough background checks and training requirements. Some powers could be expressly prohibited outside police or military use. [More]
