More Blood on Our Hands, Damn Us

Bloodbath in downtown NYC after driver shoots pedestrians from his truck [More]
Let me guess: A Trump-supporting Republican NRA member with a concealed carry permit?

UPDATE: Back from some chores.Well the story sure has changed in the past couple of hours since this posted. At the start, de Blasio and Shepard Smith were both tripping all over themselves to assure us this was not an act of terrorism. Then we find out the guns weren't real firearms and the assault weapon was a licensed and registered truck, the driver of which was overheard yelling "Allahu Akbar!" Then the mayor, police commissioner and governor gave an "our thoughts and prayers" platitude/bromide-laden "press conference" to assure us all New Yorkers are tough and there is no wider plot, even though ISIS evidently put out a call for Halloween attacks.

Still to be determined at this writing: Whether I can use the word "rigorous."

UPDATE 2: Yes I can!
Sayfullo, we hardly knew ye.

Who Better to Explain than the Uninformed?

America's political fringe groups explained [More]
I dunno, Ms. Adams. Looking at your inclusion and description of Oath Keepers, it seems like you should have added "by SPLC" to that headline.

First off, it's not a militia and it's purposely not political. Surely it's not too much to expect an "experienced" professional investigative journalist with the resources of CBS at her disposal to check the group's website and click on the Bylaws tab and get to know her subject matter...?

Still, I guess it is "fringe" for someone counting on everyone being equally incurious and lazy. I mean, since when does anyone actually need to know what it is they're swearing to uphold, or that sometimes orders are unlawful and just following them hasn't been an accepted legal defense for some time...?

Gun Charge Gives More Character Clues to MLB Anthem Protester

With the understanding that due process requires a presumption of innocence until proven guilty, it’s also understandable that many Americans are unsympathetic to seeing him get into trouble in a crime of violence case involving a gun. That’s because, even though he was a rookie, he was the only Major League Baseball player to take a knee during the national anthem, and also happens to be a supporter of “progressive” politics, foremost of which are demands for more gun laws. But isolated anecdotes won't alter the reality of the danger.

The trick is to admit foreign nationals who will help "secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity" and to keep out the ones who won't. If they could do that, the numbers would be manageable.

So all AREN'T Welcome...?

George Washington was one of the founding members of Christ Church in Alexandria, Virginia, buying pew No. 5 when the church opened in 1773 and attending for more than two decades whenever he rode north from Mount Vernon to do business in town. Dead on 'Arrival'

I watched "Arrival" last night on Hulu.

12 huge alien ships have suddenly appeared hovering at seemingly random points around the globe. People are coming to grips with the reality of such a change everything event and relying on "the news" to learn whatever they can.

Per one of the reports:
"The ATF has put a temporary ban on new gun licenses, forcing many independent suppliers of hunting equipment and firearms to close their doors to the public."
Right.

Still, they do seem to have both government and "Authorized Journalists" pegged.

This is one of those situations where Hollywood scriptwriter ignorance accidentally stumbles on a core truth most -- not the media nor proponents of "existing law" -- want to admit: A NICS green light is nothing if not a license.

Hawaii Opposition to Concealed Carry not Just Over Reciprocity

“Hawaii lawmakers already made decisions about firearms and public safety that best serve our state,” Chin claimed. “We will resist any efforts by the federal government to turn our state into the Wild West and strip Hawaii residents of the protections passed by our state leaders.” [More]
It’s not that the Hawaii’s “progressive” state government is against guns—they just want to be the ones in complete control of them.

It's Almost Like a Game Plan or Something...

I was looking for something else entirely, and as is so often the case, ran across something of relevance I did not recpgnize at the time. That would be this post from years before Mike and I had ever heard of Fast and Furious and of the Phoenix SAC at its center.

That links to this report, highlights of which include:
U.S. Guns Arming Mexican Drug Gangs; Second Amendment to Blame? ... "It's a war going on in Mexico, and these types of firearms are the weapons of war for them," said Bill Newell ... "It's virtually impossible to buy a firearm in Mexico as a private citizen, so this country is where they come," said Newell ... But U.S. efforts to stop the smuggling of tens of thousands of guns to Mexico, including high-powered assault weapons, have been hampered by lenient American gun laws ... Mexico's strict gun laws are being subverted by the easy availability of weapons in the U.S... U.S. and Mexican officials say they have traced most of the thousands of high-powered weapons seized from the drug cartels to gun dealers in Texas, California and Arizona ... Under federal gun laws, gun dealers are not required to report multiple purchases of such weapons because they are classified as rifles ... "If you were to go into a gun store and buy 20 of these, there is no requirement by the gun dealer to fill out a multiple sales form," ,,, The drug cartels' weapons of choice include variants of the AK-47 ... Assault weapons made in China and Eastern Europe, resembling the AK-47...
Does it seem to you like he had a specific direction he wanted to focus his division's efforts toward?

I wonder if anyone at House Oversight saw this back in the day. If they didn't, I wonder if they'd care to compare it with what they know now.
