Never Letting a Crisis Go to Waste

HB 219: Assault Weapons and Large-Capacity Magazines [More]
Mr. and Mrs. Florida, turn 'em all in?

Anybody from Florida know if this is just noise or if it stands a chance?

"No man's life, liberty or property are safe while the Legislature is in session." -- Gideon John Tucker

While this state is trending purple due to younger Cubans forgetting the significance of their parents and grandparents having to flee Cuba, and a hurricane driven influx of Puerto Ricans into the Orlando area, this is still, at least for now, "The Gunshine State".

As for what the future holds, my crystal ball is still in the shop. Nevertheless I would put the chances of this bill passing into alw in the slim to none column. But it could still happen.

Even if, I think you would see noncompliance comparable to California, New York, and Connecticut. What they think to gain by passing laws that We the People will ignore is beyond me.

I wonder how many of these events are going to be played out in every state until each one falls to the Dem's push to become a clone of Kommifornia? Seems the M.O. has been the same:

one (or more) non-socialized teenager(s) or twenty-something with a grudge,

with a (usually) recent history of psychiatric care,

a registered Democrat, or at least leftist-professing/supporting,

on SSRIs,

a valid (or slipped-through-the-cracks)recent purchase of an AR15,

reports to some school authority or law enforcement by friends, family or social media contacts, followed by little or no contact or action,

usually within a day or so of some news item which is embarrassing to the Democrats,
acted out in a gun-free zone,

during or close to a time when there is some kind of active shooter or other emergency drill going on with local law enforcement/first responder teams,

witnesses reporting more than one shooter to local news media, which stories disappear a day or so later and are never heard again or maintained in website archives,

followed by immediate calls by leftists for more gun control or outright bans on the specific type of weapon the shooter uses (tends to be the AR15 but includes any associated handgun and magazines) which is continually and erroneously characterized as a "military grade" "assault" rifle, and "high capacity" magazines, in spite of all attempts by those who know better to educate those responsible for such mischaracterizations.

These are NOT just "coincidence".

Anybody else notice a common feature to these events that I haven't listed?

I think it has little chance of passing this year, and when (if) it does, there will be non-compliance and non-enforcement comparable to CT and NY.

Further, as MBV used to say, these knuckleheads are unwittingly soliciting civil war because they believe there will be no consequences for them. While it is virtually certain this will become 'law' eventually, it is equally certain that the camel will get that final straw about the same time.

No, it appears the House Bill to ban "assault weapons" and high cap mags didn't make it out of committees. Democrat Rep Kionne McGhee asked for a procedural move (2/20) tht would have allowed the house to consider the bill, but it was defeated 71-36. However, the incoming FL Senate President Galvano is in favor of gun control. He wants to restrict all long gun purchases across the state to 21 years of age and create a mandatory 3 day waiting period even for CCW permit holders. He also proposes a gun violence restraining order allowing people with standing (family member, relative, custodian) to ask a judge to restrain that person's firearm if they believe the person poses a threat. The 2018-19 Legislative session is not looking too good. The normally pro-gun Senators like Steube have withdrawn their pro-gun bills, giving in to Galvano already.
